What is ESMA FIRDS?
The Financial Instruments Reference Data System (FIRDS) is ESMA's central repository of reference data for financial instruments traded on EU venues. It underpins MiFIR transaction reporting — investment firms must identify each instrument by ISIN and verify it appears in FIRDS before reporting a trade.
FIRDS data is published weekly as FULINS (full instrument snapshots) by ESMA. Each record covers the instrument's ISIN, CFI classification, notional currency, relevant trading venue MIC, and — for bonds — maturity date. Issuer LEIs are included for bonds and equity.
This directory makes FIRDS data searchable by instrument, venue, issuer, and asset class, supporting MiFIR compliance workflows for investment firms, data teams, and regulators.
